Mixing Metals In The Kitchen And Bath

Mixing metal finishes gives any room more interest, but it can be hard to get out of the matchy-matchy rut. If you want to jump on this new trend, but are unsure what to do, try mixing only 2 to 3 metals that are guaranteed to work well together. For example, you can’t go wrong mixing nickel with brass or gold. Combining silver, gold, brass and iron looks great if you are feeling daring. And, black goes with everything!

Choose One Dominant Metal

Rather than trying to equally distribute different metals, choose a dominant metal and use the rest as accents. Separate metals by height. For instance, use one metal for lighting fixtures and another for cabinet hardware. Or, use the same metal for faucets and another for mirrors. Follow the rule of spreading the dominant metal throughout the room and you can’t go wrong.

Balance Cool And Warm Tones

To make your metals pop, consider adding a warm metal accent to a cool tone one, such as a touch of gold or copper to stainless steel. Just be sure to use one hue as the accent metal and one hue as the dominant one.

Mix up the metal finishes

To give any room a designer feel, combine two metals with different colors and textures like hammered copper and polished black. If you’re concerned about mixing different metal colors, stick with one metal, such as brass, and look for different finishes to add variety.
