Move over white and so long gray, there are a whole range of materials and hues to choose from for your kitchen cabinets. Once considered passé and unattractive, wood cabinets are back in style. Or, if you like something a little more colorful try blue or green colored cabinetry. Do you want to be a little edgy? How about using black cabinetry? For a modern twist on cabinetry, try the two-tone look. There are so many choices it is hard to pick your favorite.
Wood Is Back In Style
Wood cabinets are making a comeback. These aren’t the orange stained oak cabinets from the past. The new use of wood cabinets typically feature natural finishes that add subtle dimension and texture to a kitchen remodel. Depending on the door style and finish color, the look can lean either warm and rustic or clean and contemporary.
Blue And Green Can’t Be Beat
Blue is one of the most popular colors, and that’s no exception for kitchen cabinets. Found frequently in nature, subtle shades of blue are quickly becoming a new neutral. For a no-fail combination, pair dusty blue cabinets with natural wood accents and industrial materials.
Green cabinets are so versatile and go with everything—black, white, beige and so many colors. The color green is serene and creates a tranquil feeling.
Blues and greens work well because of the variety in those color families, and they provide a sense of comfort.
Black Is A Bold Choice
Edgy but so classic, black cabinets pair perfectly with anything. Try pairing matte black cabinets with something metallic, but just a splash!
For a modern, Scandinavian minimalist look, use the same black materials for all your surfaces in the kitchen. The result will be sleek, understated and tasteful.
Pairing your black cabinets with bright white creates a modern vibe. You can accomplish this by painting the walls white or having a white backsplash. If you want to keep the backsplash and walls on the darker side as well, you can use white as your accent color. For example, if you have dark cabinets, a dark backsplash, and gray walls, you can bring in white accents through stools, a white kitchen table and chairs, white dishes and bright white decorative accessories. It’s a simple color palette that really stands out and makes a big visual impact.
Mix And Match Colors
Traditionally, kitchens have been designed with matching cabinetry. The cabinets on top are the same color or stain as the ones on the bottom, and all the hardware is the same throughout. However, the trend of two tone cabinets has thrown out that idea. This combination comes in many forms. In some cases, it may simply refer to a kitchen where the island is a different color than the cabinets.
Or, it could refer to a kitchen where half the cabinets are one color and half are a contrasting shade. Some designs feature one color for the top cabinets and one color for the bottom cabinets.
If you want to be bold, try mixing two types of cabinets throughout your kitchen.
